EMMA CARUSO (1936-2021)




Holt - Emma Caruso, age 85 passed away at home on Thursday, July 1, 2021. She was born in Sant'Ippolito, Italy February 1, 1936. She lived in Lansing before moving to Durand, MI as a child. Emma married Charles Caruso in 1956. They lived in Fremont, MI where they ran the family candy and ice cream store ("Caruso's Candy Kitchen"). They moved to Lansing in 1962.

Emma obtained her Realtor's license in 1979 and enjoyed a long career helping many people find the house of their dreams. Emma's greatest joy came from her family. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandma and great-grandma. Emma was such a kind and loving person, loved by everyone she met. She had so many talents, which include sewing, knitting, painting beautiful pictures, and of course her delicious cooking and baking. Emma was very social, she could make a new friend standing in line at the grocery store! She was involved in many groups over the years, including the Italian American Club Women's Auxiliary, The Women's Auxiliary at St. Casimir Church, her bridge club, and painting classes.

Emma is survived by her children, Bob (Kathleen) Caruso, Julie Jakimcius, Debbie (Jack) Voegler, and son-in-law Joe Murphy; grandchildren Charlie and Rob Caruso, Maria Jakimcius, Anna (Joe) Spieles, Daniel (Danielle) Voegler, Kellie (Adam) Rainbolt, Joe (Angela), David (Camille) and Samantha Murphy; great-granddaughter Rosella Murphy; brothers Paul and Jerry (Paula) Spagnuolo, and sister Lorraine (John) Canavan; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She is preceded in death by her loving husband Charles, to whom she was married for 52 years; son Sammy and daughter Nancy Murphy; son-in-law Andy Jakimcius; parents Stanislaus and Rosaria (Dionise) Spagnuolo; parents-in-law Sam and Julia (Fabiano) Caruso.

Special thanks to everyone at Heartland Hospice, especially Jennifer, Linda, Penny and Kristen, and Adela who took such good care of Emma. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, July 7, 2021 with a 7 p.m. Rosary at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, 3815 S. Cedar, Lansing, MI 48910. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 8, 2021 at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church with a visitation from 10-11 a.m. at the church. For those attending the visitations and/or the funeral, it is the family's wish that masks be worn at all times if you have not been vaccinated. The Funeral Mass will also be live-streamed via the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church site on YouTube. The link can be accessed from the church website (ihmlansing.org). Father John Byers will be presiding. The Rite of Committal will be at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Heartland Hospice, 865 S.
